Notes: Studio sessions for Saviors started at RAK Studios in London, UK before moving back to the US with additional sessions at United Recording (Los Angeles, CA) and Henson Recording (Los Angeles, CA). The sessions were lead by longtime producer Rob Cavallo who was back in the fold for the first time since the Uno/Dos/Tre trilogy. Saviors was heralded by many fans as the best album released by the band since American Idiot in 2004. The album would debut at #4 on the Billboard 200 and top the rock, alternative and vinyl album charts in it’s first week. On May 23, 2025, a deluxe version of Saviors was released featuring 4 new songs recorded specifically for the expanded edition plus one previously unreleased song, 'Underdog'.

* 'Underdog' was recorded at RAK without Saviors producer Rob Cavallo. The track was self-produced by the band possibly specifically for the National Geographic series "Underdogs" which uses the song as its title theme. The song was later added to the deluxe edition of Saviors.
Session Notes
Fans first found out the band were in the studio in December 2021 when they started dropping teasers for a project seemingly called '1972'. Since all three members were born that year, most people assumed a themed album or EP was on the way. When asked about it later, Mike Dirnt said "sometimes there's an idea that we floated, and it fell into something else".
Lead single 'The American Dream Is Killing Me' was written during the Father Of All Motherfuckers sessions but was not recorded for that album with the band wanting to avoid politics. It was resurrected for Saviors after Billie played a demo of the song for producer Rob Cavallo who encouraged them to record it.
Billie Joe told Guitar World that the album began to take shape after he wrote 'Saviors', 'Look Ma, No Brains!', 'Goodnight Adeline' and 'One Eyed Bastard'.
Rumors of a leaked demo for a song called 'One Eyed Bastard' started in the spring of 2021 but the information wouldn't be confirmed until the spring of 2022 when private traders were able to acquire the song. It would finally leak to the public in mid 2023.
'Strange Days Are Here To Stay' was originally titled 'I Made A Mess For You'.
Most of the new tracks for the Saviors deluxe edition were recorded at OSO Recording in late 2023 specifically for the expanded release. The exception being 'Underdog' which was a self-produced holdover from the original RAK Studios sessions. Because it lacks Rob Cavallo's production credits, the song was likely never intended for the main album, but was instead recorded to be the theme song for the National Geographic show Underdogs.
The Japan bonus track 'Fever' was not recorded in these sessions, it was a leftover from the Father Of All Motherfuckers sessions.
The new songs on Saviors édition de luxe, 'Smash It Like Belushi', 'Stay Young', 'Fuck Off' and 'Ballyhoo', were all recorded at OSO Recording specifically for the deluxe album and were not leftover recordings from the Saviors sessions.
