With the world (and subsequently Green Day’s touring plans) on hold due to the Coronavirus pandemic, Billie Joe began releasing homemade cover songs on the Internet each week. He vowed to release a cover every Monday “until we’re let back out into the world” and dubbed the project “No Fun Mondays”.
While Billie didn’t stick to releasing on Mondays, or even every week, he did in the end release 14 covers online which were eventually compiled into an album called No Fun Mondays. Since Billie’s previous solo effort had been released under the name The Longshot, this would mark the first solo release to bear his name since the 1977 single ‘Look For Love’ when he was 5 years old.
