Green Day had the honour of not only covering the iconic 'The Simpsons Theme' for The Simpsons Movie in 2007, but the band also appeared as animated characters in the film's opening sequence. After performing for the residents of Springfield, the band members tragically met their end when the polluted waters of Lake Springfield dissolved their barge, causing it to sink. Their rendition of the theme was released as a digital single on 24 July 2007, just days before the movie's worldwide release.
