Song Notes
Recorded during the Nimrod demo sessions, most likely in early 1997. ‘Black Eyeliner’ would later have a verse used in ‘Church On Sunday’ from Warning and its melody would feature on The Longshot track ‘Kill Your Friends’. The demo of the song wouldn't be officially released until its inclusion on the 25th anniversary edition of Nimrod in 2023.
Lyrics
Hey, do you say
Can I borrow some of your black eyeliner
To make my eyes look just like yours
Please, can you apply on my sleepwalking eyes open wide
Half awake and half asleep
Bloodshot deadbeat
Lack of sleep
Making your mascara bleed
Smeared down your face
Leavin' traces of mistakes
Hey, what would you say
If I asked to kiss you one last time again
Is it even worth the try
If you can't reply, can I apply your black eyeliner one more time
To make your eyes look just like mine
Bloodshot deadbeat
Lack of sleep
Making your mascara bleed
Smeared down your face
Leavin' traces of mistakes
Bloodshot deadbeat
Lack of sleep
Making your mascara bleed
Smeared down your face
Leavin' traces of mistakes
Hey, what would you say
If I asked to kiss you one last time again
Is it even worth the try
If you can reply, can you apply your black eyeliner one more time
To make your eyes look just like mine
So
So, oh
