Inspired by listening to the Everly Brothers 1958 album Songs Our Daddies Taught Us, Billie Joe had the idea to remake the record to not only bring more attention to the songs he’d fallen in love with but to also give them a modern update with a female on co-vocals which might give the songs new meaning.
After his wife Adrienne suggested Norah Jones for the role, Billie contacted her and she quickly agreed. Billie and Norah put the album together in two studio sessions in 2013 lasting less than a week in total. The album, which they’d call Foreverly, debuted at #40 on the Billboard album charts and later peaked at #19 with the passing of Phil Everly in 2014 just five weeks after the album was released.
