The Upside Downers announce EP

New side project featuring Billie Joe to release live EP

After hinting at it for the past few weeks, East Bay record store 1-2-3-4 Go! Records have announced they will be exclusively releasing a live EP from a new side project called The Upside Downers. The new band features Billie Joe Armstrong, Jason White, Greg Schneider, and Chris Dugan.

The four-track EP, called Rockin At Golden Bull, has live covers of Fox On The Run (Sweet), September Gurls (Big Star), I Want You To Want Me (Cheap Trick) and Pleasant Valley Sunday (The Monkees). The band recorded the EP under the name “The Del Gatos” on January 11, 2020, at The Golden Bull bar where Billie Joe is a part-owner.

Going by the description on 1-2-3-4 Go! Records Instagram post, this may be just the beginning for The Upside Downers. The post hints “What is the meaning of this? Will there be more? Mysteries, the fun of surprise shows and loud sounds abound! Let’s start with some old favorites and see where things go.”

As for the new EP, it will be a Record Store Day exclusive with 500 copies sold only in person at 1-2-3-4 Go! Records this Saturday (July 17th) in Oakland, CA. Any leftovers will be available on their website the following day. If you miss out on one of these, the store promises more will be released “much later in the year”.

We’ll keep you updated on any further developments with this new side project, but in the meantime, make sure to follow The Upside Downers official Instagram account as we wait for their first post.
