We are just a week away from the release of Saviors and there’s been a lot happening this week. But before we get to that, don’t forget you can listen to the album early at hundreds of different record stores around the world this weekend. The Saviors listening parties will have free giveaways of lyric books, posters, buttons, t-shirts and more while supplies last. Now on to the latest news…
Green Day on the Howard Stern Show
Green Day announced today that they will be appearing on the Howard Stern show on Wednesday, January 17th, and will be “sharing something big” on air! We’ll have to wait and see what they mean by that but fans can look forward to an interview and performance from the band, in their last appearance they played five songs live on the show.
New interviews with Billie Joe & mike
In a revealing interview with Vulture, Billie Joe shared how Saviors bridges the gap between Dookie and American Idiot, his struggles with sobriety and the albums he’d like to re-release with better production. There’s a lot of great content in this interview so I won’t spoil it, it’s worth the read.
Meanwhile, Mike Dirnt was interviewed by Rolling Stone where he shared how Saviors came to be along with his thoughts on several of the albums tracks. Unfortunately, despite Rolling Stone’s prodding, he would not commit to touring past the age of 80 so enjoy them while you can fans, you might only have another 30 years or so.
Music Video Shoot
Earlier this week the band put out a call for fans in Los Angeles to sign up for a “Top Secret Green Day Event” taking place on Saturday, January 12th. Selected fans will be able to participate in the shooting of the new Green Day music video which will likely be released next Friday along with the album.
‘1981’ & oakland coffee
This afternoon the band announced they will be rebranding their Oakland Coffee company to Punk Bunny Coffee, which as you can guess is a play on the band’s infamous Drunk Bunny mascot. No reason for the rebrand was given but the new address for the company could be a clue since it’s in Brecksville, OH now rather than Oakland.
Head over to the new Punk Bunny Coffee website and sign up for their mailing list for a sneak peak at ‘1981’!
Private Concert
Finally, Green Day performed a surprise benefit concert on Wednesday at the Consumer Electronics Show after-party in Las Vegas. The event was to raise money for music education in school. Check out the full setlist here, and a clip of their performance of American Idiot below.
