Last year at this time Green Day were on the eve of releasing their 13th studio album, Father Of All Motherfuckers, and gearing up for a world tour that was scheduled to culminate with the summer Hella Mega stadium tour with Fall Out Boy and Weezer.
Instead, a few days later the band would perform Oh Yeah on the Late Late Show with James Corden and soon after the world shut down. No more album promotion and no more touring.
A year later the band is once again ready to embark on the Hella Mega tour, whether that will actually happen remains to be seen, but they were finally back on stage again tonight.
Performing at the 10th Annual NFL Honors, Green Day ripped through Still Breathing (Revolution Radio), Holiday (American Idiot) and Basket Case (Dookie) on the waterfront outside of SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. NFL season highlights were showcased throughout the performance before closing with a flurry of fireworks in the background.
Check out their return to the stage below, let’s hope there’s more to come in the months ahead.
