Green Day debut new song ‘1981’ at FEQ

Fans who attended Green Day’s headlining performance at Festival d’été de Québec last night were in for a treat with Green Day rolling out a couple of fan favourites along with a brand new song called ‘1981’ which is expected to be on the bands’ forthcoming album due in 2024.

After sticking to a pretty standard setlist for the past couple of years concentrating mainly on their greatest hits, fans were likely expecting more of the same at the festival dates in Milwaukee and Quebec this week.

The first change though happened at the Harley Davidson Homecoming Festival in Milwaukee when the band launched into the Nimrod track ‘The Grouch’ for the first time live since 2009.

Moving on to Quebec last night, the band once again played ‘The Grouch’ but also added the Insomniac favourite ‘Stuart And The Ave’ to the set list for the first time since 2016.

Most exciting though was the addition of a brand new track called ‘1981’ which had been previously teased back in March of 2022 by Billie Joe on Instagram. The new track is the first complete song to be heard from the new album since the band began teasing it back in December of 2021.

Unfortunately, Green Day does not have any further concert dates at this point until they headline the Louder Than Life festival in September and then two days of the When We Were Young festival in October but according to Billie Joe’s guitar tech Hans Buscher, the band are “gearing up for the new album promotion soon”.

So while we wait for the band to take the stage again we can take solace in the fact that we might start to learn more about Album 14 in the next few months. We’ll keep you posted here with any new updates and follow along with our new Instagram for story notifications.
