Notes
Released as part of the Dookie 30th Anniversary Box Set
According to a post on Billie Joe’s Instagram story, the song were recorded on a Tascam 4-track Portastudio he purchased after the Kerplunk tour in 1992.
The lyrics heard in this 4-track demo of Basket Case were completely rewritten prior to the band recording their first studio demo of the song on December 27, 1992.
The approximate time frame for the recording of each song to the best of our knowledge is below:
- Burnout – Fall 1992 based on earliest live recording 1992/11/07.
- Chump – Spring 1993 based on no evidence of this song prior to Dookie sessions.
- Pulling Teeth – Spring 1993, this version is more complete than the other demo which lacks the guitar solo.
- Basket Case – Summer 1992 based on Billie’s tweet that Basket Case and Haushinka were written at the same time in summer 1992.
- She – Spring 1993 based on the other demo, this is similar in all aspects.
- Sassafras Roots – Spring 1993 based on the other demo, this is similar in all aspects.
- When I Come Around – Summer 1992 based on the earliest live recording 1992/08/29. This demo says “leaving me”, while in the live recording, the line is “ditching me”.
- In the End – Fall 1992 based on the earliest live recording 1992/11/18.
- F.O.D. – Spring 1993 based on the other demo, this is similar in all aspects
- When It’s Time – Fall 1992 based on the earliest live recording 1992/11/18
