Green Day On Mars

Mars Lander Has a Green Day Connection

Green Day’s Twitter account passed on some unexpected news this afternoon sending out a picture of a microchip that pays homage to the band.

Apparently, when NASA’s InSight Mars Lander touched down on the planet earlier today, it carried the microchip which has the inscription “Green Day Since 1986”.

The opportunity to “send your name to Mars” was provided by NASA and garnered almost 2.5 million submissions by people hoping to get their name on the Lander. According to NASA’s FAQ page, all entries were added to the microchip with only those containing offensive words not making the cut.

So while it turns out it’s not a terribly unique honour, it’s still pretty cool.
