Billie Joe & friends lead Ramones 50th Anniversary Tribute in Los Angeles
Punk supergroup The Cretin Family headlined the official anniversary show at Hollywood Forever Cemetery.
Punk royalty converged at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Forever Cemetery last night to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Ramones’ groundbreaking 1976 debut album. Taking the stage just yards away from Johnny and Dee Dee Ramone’s resting places, Billie Joe joined forces with Tim Armstrong (Rancid), Travis Barker (Blink-182), and former Ramones bassist CJ Ramone to form the punk supergroup: Cretin Family. Hosted by John Travolta to benefit cancer research at the Ellison Institute, the night paid homage to the band that laid the blueprint for modern punk rock.
The one-night-only lineup tore through a barrage of classic Ramones anthems, treating fans to an unforgettable set packed with surprises. Longtime Green Day touring member Jason Freese hopped on stage with his saxophone for a rendition of 'Do You Remember Rock 'n' Roll Radio?', while Green Day's Saviors Tour opening band The Linda Lindas joined the fray for 'California Sun' and 'I Wanna Be Sedated'. The celebration culminated with punk icon Billy Idol joining the band for a blistering three-song finale featuring 'Beat on the Brat', Generation X’s 'Ready Steady Go' and the Ramones most famous song, 'Blitzkrieg Bop'.
