Show notes

On October 19, 2023, Green Day played a surprise pop-up concert at the 800-capacity Fremont Country Club in Las Vegas, serving as a warm-up show ahead of their headlining slot at the When We Were Young festival. The event was teased less than 24 hours prior via a cryptic sign reading "SEND AN SOS IT'S GETTING SERIOUS" outside the neighboring Backstage Bar & Billiards, followed by a local, strictly enforced will-call ticket drop designed to limit scalping. Opening support was provided by Ultra Q, who are fronted by Billie Joe Armstrong's song Jakob.

The show featured a complete, front-to-back performance of their 1994 album Dookie to celebrate its upcoming 30th anniversary. Following the full album play-through, the band used the club setting to debut 'The American Dream Is Killing Me', the lead single from Saviors, and formally announced the upcoming 2024 stadium tour with The Smashing Pumpkins, Rancid, and The Linda Lindas.

The remainder of the 29-song set bypassed mainstream radio hits in favor of deep cuts, rare live revivals, and fan favorites from across their discography. Highlights included the first full performance of 'Warning' since 2001, 'Homecoming' for the first time since 2010, the first full airings of 'Nuclear Family' and 'Oh Love' since 2017, the live debut of 'Graffitia', and rare outings for tracks like 'Geek Stink Breath', 'Stuart and the Ave.' and 'Disappearing Boy'.

After scrambling all day to get a ticket, getting to see this show felt very special. All of Dookie, a new song, and a bunch of rarities!? Watching Tré take Blue for All By Myself had everyone laughing. When they busted out Homecoming and Last Night on Earth, I was genuinely surprised. Truly a night I'll never forget.
