Show notes

'Okay, so we get there and we're scrambling to find our seats and Jimmy Eat World starts. They're not bad live but they only play for like half an hour. Then we sit back and watch everyone else watch each other. A few 80's hits play, like 'Mickey' and after a while a pink bunny comes out and he's chugging a beer and wobbling around. He shakes his tail and drinks some more to Y.M.C.A.
After that he leaves and I saw like a little army of huge, line backer securities guys come out... Which meant Green Day was on their way! The Ramones' 'Blitzkrieg Bop' came on and that really pumped everyone up. The first song was, of course, 'American Idiot', and then 'Jesus of Suburbia' and a few others off the American Idiot CD (not gonna bother with the order they played 'em.) Billie Joe talks about the album and such every now and in between. At one point he did the traditional, 'The stars at night are big and bright...' And then you know the crowd goes, 'Clap clap clap clap' and sings back 'Deep in the heart of Texas'. Yeah, that never gets old... But the crowd ate it up. They wanted everything he had for them and then some. So, he did the 'Hey ohs' and then a sexual moaning bit, which was damn hot might I add, and then screamed: 'Somebody fuck me!' I was about to burst and I swear they should have rushed that stage. He then did this slow smug laugh and that was the fucking cherry on top.
During the Knowledge number, they pulled people from the pit, as usual, but the guitarist they grabbed, whom Billie Joe had asked over and over if he was for real, didn't know how to play at all! Well, that kid got booted off quick and the guy they got afterwards was a great guitarist and he was hugged and kissed and hugged again by Billie Joe. It was all pretty funny.
They played all their old hits which was nice for their older fans. There were a lot of families and younger kids at the show, who knew mainly the American Idiot album, and when the older songs came on it was a nice surprise to the veteran Green Day fans. My friends and I went completely insane when they started Brain Stew (a personal favorite.) All the old popular songs were played, a real nice surprise actually. They then did 'Shout' which was fun and then 'Stand by Me'. They played 'We Are The Champions' and like 'When September Ends' the cell phones and lighters came out (my lighter was fucked after this concert.) They left the stage and we all started chanting GREEN DAY in synch with the over head light board. It took me a while to notice that :) They encored with 'Maria' and 'Boulevard of Broken Dreams'.
They profusely thanked everyone, and left the stage except for Billie Joe who completely came out of left field and played 'Good Riddance' alone. God, I almost cried. I sang along and had some deep moments. Really. All and all, the best show I've ever been to. They were amazing! It was outstanding entertainment. Although the music is what draws you to the band being ridiculously entertaining is also something only great bands can do. To captivate their audience like that (and there were thousands of people, it was almost obscene how many people were there.) I wished it would have never ended, I had such a good time, it was so much fun. Honestly, I just wished they cursed more :) But there were kids so I understand. Still they were all amazing. I think Tre Cool threw away like 20 pairs of drum sticks during the entire performance. Mike Dirnt was just a bad ass and Billie Joe.. Well, he's a Rock God. And I think he knows it."
