Show notes
SMD: "Green Day came on shortly after 9. They opened with Nice Guys Finish last, went through the first few songs pretty quickly, they were talking about how long it had been since they played in LA (that wasn't a Radio Festival) They took requests for what Heavy Metal song to play and a some guy shoted "Brain Stew!!," Billie said, "We'll get to that" they then played Ozzie and Van Halen. They took a few more requests, some guy wanted Westbound Sign, but Billie said no, he then said J.A.R. and everyone cheered so they played that, he then asked if we wanted to hear an old song. Everyone cheered again, he mentioned Christie Road, but changed his mind and the played Going to Pasalacqua. They then played all their hits, including Knowledge, they had a new band come up on stage, they were pretty good, they sprayed the fans with beer, a water gun, and water bottles. Then after When I Come Around they smashed the stage, and then rebuilt a mini drumset for Tre and finished with Macy's Day Parade. Tre ended by throwing the new bass drum in to the old heap he'd just destroyed."
Leah: "i went to the july 21 ,2001 concert at the Bren Events Center at UC Urvine. they played 23 great songs in105 minutes.Billie joe was in his striped shirt that he wore in the Waiting video... In this time Billie Joe made out with a guy, who he invited on stage to play guitar during Knowledge. The guy was a little exited so i guess Billie Joe tried to calm him down so he kissed him. He also drenched the adience with a super soaker while Mike did it with beer. Billie Joe put on a crown to perform King For A Day and wouldn't sing Hitchin' a Ride unless the audeince said "1,2,1234" with him. He also took request for songs, he never played my song though(2,000 light years away), they also threw out tons of picks and drum sticks. Unfortunetly i did not get one. Right before they played Macy's Day Parade ( the last song), Tre' distroyed his drums and made a little drum set at the front of the stage. After the song was over, Billie Joe introduced all of the "helpers" and horn players, then Mike and Tre' ran off stage while Billie Joe walked off casualy. The Living End were also great besides a little technical difficulty. i even saw Adrianne, Joey and Jacob!! It was so worth the 31 dollars! but i would have spent as much money as it would have take to get to see Green Day."
