Show notes

Rowena Searle: "The first two bands came on after a while, and they were OK. One of them was The Mavis's and I didn't know the other band. A couple of times while we were waiting for someone to come on stage, the guys from Green Day poked their heads around the corner behind the stage, and everyone went crazy! Then, after ages of waiting, the lights turned down, and this huge white banner with Green Day written on it rolled down the back of the stage, and it was lit up by these bright green lights. Everyone screamed really loudly! Then they came on! They were awesome! It was like they lived on the stage! Billie Joe asked who knew how to play the guitar and a whole heap of people put their hands up (including me) and he picked someone and said, 'How long have you been playing the guitar?' The guy said, 'One year.' BJ said, 'Well, you know, if you get up here and fuck it up then everyone's gonna hate you, do you still wanna do it?' The guy said no! Then Billie picked someone else and he was really good. They got the guy to play some chords while Billie Joe ran around the stage and threw water on everyone and went crazy. Then BJ kissed the guy and sent him off the stage. Then later on, this bimbo girl crowd surfed her way up to the front, and BJ told her to come up on stage. He asked her her name, and she screamed it into the microphone and then he said to her, 'Right, you've done that, now get the fuck off the stage!' After that, someone in the crowd fainted or something and Billie Joe saw it and yelled out for the
first aid people to come and help him. Then they just suddenly said, 'Right, thanks for coming,' and left the stage. And everyone was screaming out, 'Green Day, Green Day, Green Day, Green Day!' They came back on wearing different clothes, and played a bit more, then Billie Joe started playing really loudly while Tre and Mike threw around the drum kit and bass guitar, and just bashed everything up! It was so crazy! But it was really awesome!"
