Show notes

"The band threw the stage Christmas tree into the crowd. Once again Billie wrote obscenities on the stage and apparently there was a fight backstage with KROQ workers. KROQ called the police but no charges where laid."

Mike Dirnt: "I never said a word to [David Bowie], but we played a show together, we were hanging out in the hallway, and we were both dressed to the nines... I looked across the way, he looked at me, I looked at him, and he goes: [nods] like 'this is cool, isn't it?' and I'm like 'absolutely.'" (Vinyl Obsession podcast, 2023)

Scott Evanskey: "Seeing Green Day in '97 with Karen at KROQ's Acoustic Xmas was awesome. Knowing she was into punk from a long time ago and seeing Green Day's performance that night was just a wonderful throwback to old school punk. They tore down a 20 feet Christmas tree that was shipped here from Holland then spraypainted the WHOLE set green, destroyed their instruments and then lit the drum set and the stage on fire and left Billie Joe naked singing Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) alone on stage with a beat up acoustic guitar was just brilliant! And to see all this happening with this super cool girl I just started dating and she was digging it too was bliss!"
