Show notes

Brian Krashpad: "They would give most local bands a chance to play, and touring punks like Green Day before they were famous, etc. Very tiny, but the vibe was great."

gdtourvan1990: "Tuesday July 24: We rolled out of Roanoke and headed south to Gainesville FL; about 13 hours of driving. We passed South of the Border around 3am but kept on driving. This is another place, like Wall Drug, that no tour would be complete without stopping at… but the guys weren’t too interested. The show was at the Hardback Cafe; 232 Southeast 1st Street. We arrived at the venue mid-morning; I was out of gas and the guys were completely broke. They had to push me into the parking lot. Then, they literally ran their fingers through my upholstery looking for change. Fortunately, a good crowd turned up at the show that night and the band fund was restored. This, despite the opening band having a bit of an attitude. Was it Aleka’s Attic featuring River Phoenix? Probably not, but whoever it was, they were none too happy opening for the guys. That night, Var conducted an interview with the band for his mag No Idea. This is probably the most definitive accounting of the tour to date. Apparently the Hardback has reopened in another part of town, but its original location is now called the Backyard at Boca Fiesta & Palomino. Sounds dreadfully boring. At least it isn’t boring condos."
