gdtourvan1990: "Tuesday July 17: John and Aaron took the night shift out of Harrisburg and at a sunrise gas stop handed things over to Sean with a brief check of the map. “Whatever you do, don’t go through Manhattan”, was the last thing said as they climbed in the bunk. Well sure enough there was a bit of a panic when we arrived at the mouth of the Holland Tunnel in the middle of morning rush hour! Fortunately the toll was on $3. Canal Street was a wild place and it took a bit of concentration to get across town and headed toward The Bridges Cafe in East Windsor, CT for a matinee show with fellow East Bay band Neurosis. But we weren’t able to stick around to see them, because we had another show that night at the Skate Hut, 7 Dike Street in Providence RI. While the Skate Hut is gone, the building is still there just as ominous as it was that night. It was a huge indoor skatepark and the band played in the basement which looked like a dungeon.There were a lot of kids there that night, but it seemed more of them were there to skate than to see Green Day.It was rumored the building was owned by the Mafia and so the police never came by and the kids could do whatever they wanted.There is no remaining evidence of The Bridges Cafe. Not even an address. But it appears the actual bridges were almost washed out in the hurricane of 1938. Five states, Two shows, 400 miles of driving; an exciting day to say the least."
