Show notes
Bugs: "Green Day, River Theatre in Guerneville, CA. They were the first of three bands to play that night. I must have been 16 so, 1991 maybe? They all had long hair and flannel shirts. I ended up with their demo tape and saw them a few more times in high school around the Bay Area."
One of the first shows I ever went to, at the River Theater in Guerneville, was MDC playing with All, Nuisance, and a very young and very stoned opening band called Green Day. It was September 23, 1989. I was 13. At that first show in Sonoma County, they made jokes about handing out hundreds of joints to the crowd, sold hand-silkscreened tuxedo shirts stolen from their high school marching band for $3, and had just one record — a fantastic Lookout 7" called 1,000 Hours that my friends and I listened to obsessively. Green Day made a splash with their first Sonoma County show. It was clear that something special was underway.
