Show notes

ISOCRACY [*Username, not a quote from the band]: "I was at the private show in Pinole at Eggplant's house. It was Op Ivy's last show and Green Day's first show*. I walked up to Mike after they were done and said they sounded a lot like Husker Du (being originally from MN, this is a HUGE compliment) The official last Op Ivy show (and I was fortunate to see many) was the first GD show*. Just for info, East Bay Mud, Isocracy, and the band I was familiar with - Crimpshrine - also played that day. I joined the military to get to Northern CA because that was were the music was."

* Editor's Note: The band actually performed for the first time as Green Day 6 weeks prior to this after previously being called Sweet Children.

Alfie - The myth of "the first Green Day show was the last Op Ivy show" has been spread around for years (mostly attached to the show the day prior at Gilman) despite it not being true, so most likely they just believed it to be true based on that myth. The show the day prior was their first show at Gilman with their new name which is probably where that whole thing started. I've added an ed note to the footnotes to make it clear that it was not the first Green Day show.

This Isocracy quote is maybe mixing memories from the show at Eggplant's in October 16, 1988, where John Kiffmeyer met the band, with this last Operation Ivy gig. Because this definitely was not Green Day's first performance. This also brings me doubts about the other acts like Crimpshrine and Isocrary on this date
