Show notes
Performed under the name Sweet Children
Billie Joe Armstrong: "And there was this backyard party that Sweet Children played, and the kid that was filling in at the time, me and Mike were looking for a drummer, and this guy was in this crazy band called Isocracy, his name is John Kiffmeyer, and he's a couple of years older and at the time he was a veteran in that community ...John Kiffmeyer from Isocracy came up and said, 'I heard you guys were looking for a drummer. My band's breaking up and I really want to be in your band.'"
Jason Beebout: "John just decided this one day to join 'em. And that kind of broke up Isocracy. John and I had gone up to Willits to hang out with Larry and Kain and Tre, and got to know them pretty well. We came back and suddenly John had gotten hooked up with Billie and Mike. I remeber him telling me, "I got this great new band." I was like, 'Really?' 'Yeah, we're gonna be huge. The singer's a genius.' It was like, 'Okay, whatever.' John was always really full of shit about stuff. But then he started playing with them."
Billie Joe: "And we just had a really good set, and then y'know Raj was just filling in"
Robert Eggplant: "And Sweet Children's drummer was done with it, like he, he can't handle something. I don't know if it's just like playing parties forever or his parents are pissed off with him, he has to get serious and get a job, so he's like done with the band. And he's so pissed off with Sweet Children that I think he just leaves the party. I forgot what the exact detail is, but he left his fucking drum set at the party."
Raj Punjabi: "I remember leaving it and being like 'fuck this I'm outta here'. I bought another one."
